VECTOR ARENA'S CHART TOPPING PERFORMANCE - JAN 25, 2008

Recent industry poll shows Vector Arena sitting on top of the world!

Auckland’s Vector Arena is sitting on top of the world in a recent industry poll.

Stars like Justin Timberlake, Lionel Richie and My Chemical Romance provided a dream end to 2007 for music lovers in Auckland.

And just how big a month it was for Vector Arena is shown in the latest concert and event tables in Venues Today, a leading international entertainment industry publication.

For the month from November 16 to December 15, Vector Arena topped those venues in the 10,001 to 15,000 seat category which report to the magazine.

Over its six shows that month, Vector Arena pulled in 50,506 people. The total grossed was $US4,310,907, which was more than double the figure for the next venue in the table, the Credit Union Centre in Canada which grossed $US1,862,491.

“These figures are really great to see,” says Guy Ngata, Vector Arena’s General Manager.

“They show just what a big month it was for Vector Arena in November, and demonstrate that Auckland is now more than capable of hosting the world’s biggest stars.”

Vector Arena also proved to have the hottest ticket in town, with Justin Timberlake’s shows proving the highest grossing concerts in the 10,001 to 15,000 seat venues.

The three Auckland shows were seen by 34,343 people, taking in $US2,987,138.

Lionel Richie’s appearance at Vector Arena ranked seventh in the chart, grossing $US814,813 with an audience of 10,347.

Other venues in Vector Arena’s group included the Brisbane (Australia) Entertainment Centre, the San Diego Sports Arena, and the Rabobank Arena in California.

“The top ranking demonstrates why Vector Arena was recently nominated for International Arena of the Year at next month’s CIC Pollstar Awards,” says Mr Ngata.

“Results like this really provide a boost for everyone at Vector Arena. A lot of hard work goes on behind the scenes, but it is all worthwhile when you see thousands of people having such a great time.

“With more international acts already lined up for the first half of the year, and our first ice show scheduled for May, it looks like 2008 is going to be a very busy year.”

The CIC Pollstar Awards are due to be announced in Los Angeles on February 7.

Vector Arena is nominated for the International Arena of the Year, alongside venues including London’s O2 Arena and the iconic Wembley Arena.
